Frequently asked questions

1 // Microblading

What is microblading?

Microblading, sometimes referred to as Eyebrow Embroidery, is essentially a less permanent cosmetic tattoo. As such, it’s categorized under “permanent makeup”. The microblading effect is created by using a hand tool with ultra fine needles to etch “hair” into the skin. Microblading can be used to dramatically correct or fully reconstruct lost eyebrows, and is an excellent way to enhance your eyebrows if you’re wanting a new look.

Am I a good candidate?

We’ll need to do an initial consultation to determine if you’re a good candidate for microblading, but we cannot do the procedure if:

  • You’re pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You’re diabetic
  • You’re taking blood thinning medication
  • You have recently completed chemotherapy

Additionally, you may not be a good candidate for microblading if:

There is psoriasis/dermatitis, eczema, keratosis pilaris, chronic acne, rosacea on or around the brow area

  • You have epilepsy
  • You’re prone to keloids
  • You have taken Accutane in the last year
  • You’re taking antibiotics
  • You have previous microblading or permanent makeup. This case will require a consultation before booking the appointment.
  • You have a heart condition

For more information, please feel free to email me, or call to discuss whether you should book a consultation before your microblading appointment.

How long does a microblading session last?

Depending on your desired result, your first microblading session should last around 1.5 – 2 hours. In the session, we’ll shape and style your brows, and then follow with a pigment colour selection. Once you’re satisfied with the shape and colour, the procedure begins.

Every microblading session comes with a follow-up appointment to address any necessary touch-ups. These usually happen within 8 weeks of your initial appointment, and usually last 35-45 minutes.

How long will I take to heal?

In short, it takes roughly 1-2 weeks for your eyebrows to heal, and about 1 month for the colour to fully set in. It is also important to note that the colour will fade by 30-50% as it heals, depending on the technique. Also, slight scabbing will occur and it is important you don’t pick the scabs. This can damage the look of the microbladed area. As your skin heals, you will notice an opaque look known as “milk skin”. This is very common after tattooing and is just a sign your skin is continuing to heal. Your true colour will come once the skin is healed completely.

Is microblading painful?

Not really. Most clients consider the pain level to be quite mild. Before every procedure we apply a topical anesthetic to numb the area, and then reapply throughout the procedure.  Depending on the client, the sensation has been described as light scratches to not feeling anything at all. The topical anesthetics used may contain lidocaine, prilocaine, benzocaine, tetracaine and epinephrine.

Following the procedure, the sensation is best described as a light sunburn. Redness and swelling are common, and usually subside within a day or two.

How long does microblading last?

Depending on your skin type and skin care routine, microblading usually lasts 1-3 years. Unlike traditional tattoos, microblading pigments aren’t implanted deep into the skin, so they will naturally fade over time. Patients who use products with AHA or glycolic acid will notice fading earlier, as will those who frequently tan. To ensure fresh looking brows, touch ups are encouraged every 12-18 months.

Are consultations necessary?

A consultation is worked into your microblading appointment. It gives us a chance to understand your expectations, and gives you a chance to ask any questions you may have. If you’ve had previous microblading or permanent makeup, scar tissues, skin issues, or medical issues requiring discussion, a separate, more in-depth consultation may be needed.

What’s the difference between shading and microblading?

The difference is in how the needles deposit pigment into your skin. Shading gives an illusion of a “fuller”, more “powdered “ brow, and helps blend areas with very little hair to areas that have thick dense hair.

How do I know if I need shading or not?

This is something we can decide on the day of your appointment.

What is a Lip Blush?

A Lip Blush is the application of pigment into the lips using a machine. The healed result is a stunning, sheer layer of colour over your lips, enhancing their natural “blush”. Pigment is combined into a custom hue that best compliments your skin tone. We can work with a variety of different natural lip tones, so feel free to reach out if you’re curious to know if you’d be a good candidate!

Do you keep a cancellation list?

In short, yes. Clients can go online and cancel/rebook appointments within 48 hours of the initial booking. I don’t keep track of appointment activity online, so it is first come first serve. Cancellations happen often, so going online to check is the best bet.

2 // Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage Massage

What is Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage Massage?

This massage technique is a full-body treatment that thrusts the lymphatic system into gear, working to flush excess fluids and toxins from the body. This action results in a decrease in bloating, digestive issues, swelling, viruses and other unwanted bacteria, lactic acid buildup, and yields incredible results for post-surgery patients and those with Lymphedema. Many of our clients also achieve visual results, with a decrease in bloating and an overall slimmer, tighter appearance.

Who can have this massage technique?

Most people can have a Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage Massage. However, there are some exclusions. Certain conditions may deem one unfit for this massage. A doctor’s note may be accepted, so please contact us prior to booking if you fall into any of the below categories:

  • 1st trimester pregnancy
  • those with active cancer
  • thrombosis/blood clots
  • kidney/liver issues or diseases
  • have a cold or feeling sick
  • undiagnosed body lumps & bumps
  • history of stroke

Is it important to tell my practitioner if I’ve had a tummy tuck/BBL/c-section?

Yes! These procedures can affect the placement of lymph nodes, and/or require some technique changes during your massage. We understand that these procedures are personal, but it is very important that your practitioner not move your lymphatic fluid into certain areas that could negatively affect your body.

How often should I come for a massage?

This question is asked often, and the answer can vary! We have clients that come once a week, once every 2 weeks, and once a month. It all depends on how you feel, how you want to feel, and your individual lifestyle. We recommend coming at least once per month to have any ongoing effects, as our lymphatic systems don’t move on their own- we need to act to put it into motion.

What should I do before/after my massage?

Great question! Prior to your massage, we ask that you hydrate yourself. For most, this means drinking more water than usual. Chugging/gulping water is not recommended as it can make you feel heavy and bloated during your massage. We also recommend that any meals you have before your session be light.

After your massage, keep hydrating yourself- lymphatic massages tend to dehydrate, so you will need to combat this in order to allow the best results from the massage. Avoiding alcohol and greasy, salty foods for 24-48 hours post-massage is recommended, as these will only halt the flushing of your lymphatic system.
